I have determined that it is unlikely that Koberstein is connected with Koppenstein and its variants. Link to Koppenstein and variants.

From here on I will call the modern era of Koberstein when they migrate throughout the world.
Here is a chart summarizing the Koberstein migration throughout the world.
I have made a map graphic that attempts to show the movement of Koberstein Families on world maps and in time. It is divided into two Diaspora, Early (13th to 17th Century) and Late (18th and 19th Century). The Early has a back ground map of the Holy Roman Empire showing the origin of Kobern/Koberstein name transition and movement within the southwest area of that empire then it shows an inset map Colonial America which is the only world dispersion during this time. The Late has a background of the German Empire and insets of places around the world where Koberstein's emmigrated to.

Here are links to the root person of each family line in their order from oldest to newest. There are no record links between these lines but the circumstantial evidence is strong.
However note that the variations in Koberstein below occure in american records indicating that it is not just a spelling variation but a family line that continued after emmigration.
| # | Birth - Root individual | Reason for inclusion if last name is not spelled Koberstein |
| 1 | 1280 - Gobel/Romilian von Cobern | Original Kobern line, probable connect to #5 who changed name from Kobern |
| 2 | 1541 - Eucharius Koberstein | |
| 3 | ~1584 - Christophel Koberstein | |
| 4 | 1620 - Johannes Kliebenstein | Only somewhat similar to Kobern/Koberstein but possible. |
| 7 | 1671 - Matys Matthias Koberstein | |
| 8 | 1682 - Christian Koberstein | Christian's children were born in Neckarwestheim between 1702 and 1719, with his first child born within a year after his marriage. Christians calculated birth year is 1681 but could be as early as 1684 making him a possible child to Adam above. In any case the birth of both Adam's and Christian's children in the small village of Neckarwestheim makes it probable they are related. |
| 12 | 1774 - Johann Gottfried Koberstein | This Koberstein tree connects to the family that emmigrated to Sweden and the family that was erroneously given christenings in Kittsford, England. |
| 13 | 1775 - Christoph Koberstein | I am related to this Koberstein line by paper documentation. |
Estimated birthdays are 20 years before marriage or 21 years before first childs birth.
