2 CONT Nicholas Koberstine was born September 8, 1821 in Hirschfeld, Bayern, 
2 CONC Germany.  There he married about 1845, Margaret Syfert.  Margaret Syfert 
2 CONC was born September 4, 1823, in Hirschfeld, Bayern, Germany, the daughter 
2 CONC of Wilhelm and Elizabeth Syfert.

2 CONT Nicholas and Margaret (Syfert) Koberstine.  On December 15, 1854 they 
2 CONC arrived with their son, Johan (John), age 3/4 years, at the Port of 
2 CONC Baltimore, Maryland, on the vessel "Helene".  They were from Hirschfeld, 
2 CONC which is in modern Germany.
2 CONT 
2 CONT When I found Nicklas Koberstine in Baltimore arrivals, also noted a 
2 CONC George Koberstine arrived 1843 also from Hirshfeld. Never found more on 
2 CONC him. There were several much later arrivals. At the time only thought to 
2 CONC copy Nicklas. The Baltimore Arrivals are soundexed and would be a source 
2 CONC for more information. When I asked at Salt Lake about this group of 
2 CONC arrivals, Nicklas was only one from Hirshfeld and there are many 
2 CONC Hirshfelds. But staff at Salt Lake felt because he was Catholic, arrived 
2 CONC from Breman, and locations of other passengers suggested Koberstine was 
2 CONC from southern Germany. (34)

2 CONT Nicholas Koberstine's occupation at the time of arrival in Baltimore was 
2 CONC listed as "shoemaker". 
2 CONT 
2 CONT Several conflicting pieces of information exists.  If John George 
2 CONC Koberstine was born July 23, 1853, he would have been over 1 years old 
2 CONC not 3/4 years on December 15, 1854.  John George Koberstine in the 1900 
2 CONC Census is listed  as being born in Pennsylvania.  The 1910 Census lists 
2 CONC his place of birth as Maryland.  He should have said he was born in 
2 CONC Germany although he only knew life in the U.S.

2 CONT Nicholas and Margaret (Syfert) Koberstine's children were as follows:

2 CONT 1.  John George Koberstine, born July 23, 1853, in Germany.

2 CONT 2.  Joseph B. Koberstine, born Dec 1857 in Maryland.  He married 
2 CONC Elizabeth "Lizzie" Douglas, who was born April 1861 (or 1860 per 
2 CONC gravestone) in Scotland. They had one child, Florence "Myrtle", born 
2 CONC February 1891, who worked for Western Electric Company.  Florence 
2 CONC "Myrtle", worked for the electric company in Sterling, Illinois.  Wife 
2 CONC Elizabeth Koberstine died November 15, 1925.  Joseph was still alive in 
2 CONC the 1930s and he died in Sterling, Whiteside County, Illinois. Joseph 
2 CONC Koberstine died October 13, 1932 in Sterling, Whiteside County, Illinois. 
2 CONC  He along with his wife and daughter are buried in Section 20, Lot #1833, 
2 CONC at the Riverside Cemetery in Sterling, Whiteside County, Illinois.  
2 CONC Daughter Myrtle Koberstine died May 7, 1934. They lived at 502 12th 
2 CONC Avenue, Sterling, Illinois, for many years.

2 CONT 3.  Henry "Hen" W. Koberstine was born October, 1860, in Pennsylvania. 
2 CONC (8) Marriage and Children Henry "Hen" W. Koberstine was married twice.  
2 CONC The first marriage about 1882 in Pennsylvania to ----- -----. (8) Henry 
2 CONC W. Koberstein (sic) married Mary Elizabeth Wiesner in Waynesboro, 
2 CONC Pennsylvania on 23 Jun 1883. Mary was the daughter of Philip Wiesner and 
2 CONC Mary Catherine Zook. (32) Henry "Hen" W. Koberstine married second April 
2 CONC 15, 1903 to Ella J. McKenzie in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. (8) Ellen 
2 CONC J. McKinzie was born in New Brunswick, Canada, about 1864. Her father was

2 CONC Monroe (850 W. Monroe under the old Chicago address system), in Chicago.

2 CONT Message: Henry W. Koberstein married Mary Elizabeth Wiesner in 
2 CONC Waynesboro, PA on 23 Jun 1883. Mary was the daughter of Philip Wiesner 
2 CONC and Mary Catherine Zook. I'm looking for any information on who Henry was 
2 CONC and any children they may have had. The only other clue I have at this 
2 CONC time is that my grandmother recalled visiting Koberstein "cousins" in the 
2 CONC Chicago area soon after she married in 1912 and my dad thinks they may 
2 CONC have had a son named Bernie. This is not my direct line, but I am trying 
2 CONC to fill in the Wiesner line descendants. Any help or clues are greatly 
2 CONC appreciated.
