Mr. David Joe Mahurin, 54, of Southwest City, Mo., departed this life on Sunday, April 17, 2005, in the Freeman Health Systems West in Joplin, Mo.
David was born April 25, 1950, in Webb City, Mo., son of the late Waldo and Beatrice (Jordan) Mahurin. He was raised in Belvedere, Ill., and attended school there. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army serving in Okinawa. For several years he was employed by the Tyson distribution center in Rogers, Ark., as a truck driver and later hauled for MOARK. In 1999 he was forced into retirement due to ill health. He was a member of the Oak Chapel Church of God near Jay, Okla. David was a true outdoorsman where his favorite activities were hunting and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Kimberly Mahurin, and a brother, Paul Mahurin.
David is survived by his wife, Debra Ann Mahurin of the home; two daughters from a previous marriage to Patsy (Mahurin) Cupp, Darleen Mae Koberstein and husband, James, of Junction City, Kan., and Tina Joe Stick and husband, James, of Jay, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Kristian Wynn, Ashley Wynn, Dominick Koberstein, Destiney Koberstein, Gage Stick, Kacee Stick and Darrell Stick; four sisters, Ada Turnipseed and husband, Kenneth, of Cottonwood, Ariz., Lora Roberts and husband, Jim, of Belvedere, Ill., and Barbara Carter of Anderson, Mo., Linda Hyams of Anderson, Mo.; three brothers, Jeff Mahurin and wife, Melinda, of Kissimmee, Fla., Maynard Mahurin of Ina, Ill., and Dennis Mahurin; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Graveside funeral services with full military honors for Mr. David Joe Mahurin are 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2005, in the Fayetteville National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Ark., with Wesley Robins officiating. Friends paid their respects on Wednesday from noon until 8:00 p.m. in the Ozark Funeral Home Chapel in Southwest City, Mo., where the family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m.
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of the Ozark Funeral Home of Southwest City, Mo.
