I am the wife (Mariel) of Henry Koberstein you found in the 1952 Portland City Directory. My son, Mark, discovered your web-site and has kept me up- to-date on your e-mail that he has received from you.
Our Koberstein family has always said that the Koberstein family in Gaston was not related but now with your question of where Uterfranken it makes me wonder if these two families are somehow related.
My husband's father, Karl Koberstein, was born to Johann Koberstein and his 2nd wife, Eva Bischof. Don't know first wife's name yet. Six children were born to each wife. Nine of these siblings immigrated to Wisconsin and three eventually came to Oregon; Karl, Kasper and John. Have researched those in Wisconsin and do have some information on them. All of these children were born in Voelkesleir near Hammelburg; believe Unterfranken is a county or province in
the state of Bavaria. Hammelburg is northwest of Schweinfurt and Voelkesleir northwest of Hammelburg. Yesterday I got the 1900, 1910 and 1920 censuses on your Louis; also, the death dates of both Louis and Caroline. It is getting to be very interesting.
