Gaston Good Ol’ Days Parade

Once a well known event in the town’s history, The Gaston Good Ol’ Days Parade is remembered by many residents as a time of town tradition and clean fun, where the community came together to spend time with one another and celebrate it’s once admired agriculture resources, highlighting the area’s most well-known—ONIONS! Although exact records of the event are missing it is said that the parade dissolved during the 1960’s. In the early 1970’s the Gaston Booster Club brought back the celebration for a few years before it dissolved once again, and in 2000 it was yet again reintroduced to the community and a new generation after an estimated 27year absence.

In the year 2000, a group of community volunteers known as TEAM Gaston with the assistance of the Knights of Pythias, re-organized the once celebrated tradition of the Gaston Good Ol’ Days Parade to be held in conjunction with annual Wapato Showdown. With 40 entries that included Gaston’s civic groups, youth sports teams and businesses the participants traveled the town’s streets eventually making their way along Front St. (Highway 47) to be announced to parade spectators.

In 2005, the Knights of Pythias took sole responsibility of the organizing and the planning of the event, which has grown into having over 60 parade entries.  Entries ranging from those directly involved with the community to businesses and organizations from surrounding areas and participants from the Wapato Showdown with their restored cars. The parade has once again turned into a celebration that is looked forward to by many and is followed by a Steak Feed presented by Gaston Market at Brown Park that feeds over 300 people.
