| Woman hurt after man runs stop sign
News Review (The) December 24, 2006 WINSTON: A woman was injured at 2:30 p.m. Friday after her Mazda 626 T-boned a Lincoln Continental whose driver had failed to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign on Lookingglass Road at Highway 99. Bonnie Burns, 52, was taken by Winston-Dillard Ambulance to Mercy Medical Center, where she was treated and released. The drive of the Lincoln, Melvin Yew, 86, of Green, was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device, according to Officer Sandi Koberstein of the Winston Police Department, who was on the scene. The accident shut down two lanes of Highway 99 for about 45 minutes. Both cars were heavily damaged.
Special recognition and congratulations to Sandy Coberstein (Marburger) who has recently graduated from the Police Academy. This has been a busy year for Sandy. She was married to Todd Coberstein on June 17th and graduated from the police academy in November 2006. Sandy has been training with Roseburg Martial Arts for about 3.5 years, she is currently a 2nd gup red belt, and has been working as a police officer for the Winston P.D. for the past two years or more. We would like to congratulate her on her accomplishments and wish her the best.

Winston police officer Sandi Koberstein said the police department has collected prescription medications like Trazodone and Cyclobenzine from one person so far, but believes that number will rise when people learn they can dispose of their medication safely. Koberstein said when enough of the pills are collected, they will be incinerated.

This year's recipients are Todd Crouse, Roseburg Police Department; Sandi Koberstein, Winston Police Department; Brian Jewell, Oregon State Police; Dwes Hutson, Douglas County Sheriff's Office; and Dave Huntsman, Sutherlin Police Department. ...
