July 19, 2004 entry:

• Student Programs and Services - Special Education Department. On June 14, the East County Region Special Day Class of Luetta Koberstein presented the librarian at Turner Elementary with 50 children’s books that will be shared by the District and County children and staff. Ms. Koberstein was the recipient of a $500.00 grant that stipulated the purchase of standards-based children’s books that would be for kindergarten-aged students. This gesture is another fine example of the efforts made on behalf of the East County classes to integrate and collaborate with the general education staff at their site. Each of the books will bear a label that has the grant name and CCCOE label, and the students look forward to another successful year of mainstreaming into the library to read “their” books!

• Student Programs and Services - Special Education Department. In the Special Education Department, the East County Region is proud to announce that seven of its staff members received a grant from the Philanthropic Ventures Foundation. They are Margie Durham, Deborah Lutz, Sue Mello, Nancy Stark, Laurel Howard-Fong, Linda Apostol, and Luetta Koberstein. Later in the school year, these person will share what they spent the grant money on and send the Philanthropic Ventures Foundation a photo of their grant money “in action.” Most of the grants were for approximately $500 and will be used to enhance instruction for our children with special needs.
