Children of Eden By colin thomas Publish Date: 16-Mar-2006 Vancouver, BC, Canada Music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. Book by John Caird. Directed by Gillian Barber. An Exit 22 production. At the Capilano College Performing Arts Theatre until Saturday, March 18 ... No doubt director Gillian Barber chose this piece partly because its many roles provide lots of opportunity to showcase the students in the musical-theatre program that Barber runs at Capilano College. Jennifer Neumann, who plays Eve, is a charismatic actor and she can both belt it out as a singer and produce a bell-like soprano tone. Mat Baker brings tenderness to the role of God and an engagingly conversational quality to his singing. Ashley Bishop (Yonah, Noahs unwelcome daughter-in-law) sings with appealing purity, as does John Fitzgerald (Noah). As Noahs wife, Laura Koberstein makes the most of the only memorable number in the show, a gospel song that should close Act 2 but doesnt.

Monday, 14 March 2005 By Joseph Planta VANCOUVER - Stephen Sondheim is certainly one of the most prolific and influential composers and lyricists in the theatrical world. The list of shows he's written the words and music to include: Company, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George, Assassins, and Passion. There's also Into the Woods, which opened Friday night at the Capilano College Performing Arts Theatre; Perhaps Laura Koberstein, who donned the mane of Rapunzel, who screamed well too.
