Wow, what a crowd here at the World Shooting & Recreational Complex. SCTP is in its final day. I met brothers Jacob, Jeff and Jordan Koberstein today. They participated in the SCTP Championships on the Evansville GC team. They all shoot Remington 1100s and enjoy the sport. Jeff says it’s calming and relaxing.

ATA shooters are arriving in mass numbers to register for the Grand American. Hope to see you at the Grand. Let me know what’s happening with you. - Terry Heeg

Ecstasy for Wood Memorial as Trojans hold off Tigers

Posted: Sunday, Aug 24, 2008 - 11:29:39 pm EDT, By PETE SWANSON

"...While the Trojans didn't lose any of five fumbles, the Tigers lost two of six. Two-hundred-eighty-pound nose tackle Jake Carlisle recovered to end Princeton's first possession, and he recovered again when the ball was knocked loose on Smith's 15-yard third-quarter run to Wood's 26.

That came when the Tigers' size appeared to be wearing on the hosts, whose resilience included three interceptions, the first by Jerico Myers at his 25 later the third quarter. Nossett's end-zone interception came with 5 minutes 44 seconds left, on the last play before the scoreboard clock quit working. Field officials kept time thereafter, including Egdorf's interception of Medcalf the night's next-to-last play.

Freshman Jeff Koberstein, entering the third quarter, gave Princeton a spark on the fourth-quarter drive that brought first-and-goal at the 8. Linebacker Randal Helsley stopped a run, a pass fell incomplete, and Nossett stepped in front of Chavis to make the fourth-down pick.

“I saw the quarterback (Waller) take a couple steps and I read pass,” Nossett said. “I went up as high as I could and came down with the ball.”

Oxley, whose Trojans ran 30 plays to the Tigers' 15 the first half, and 61 to 37 altogether, noted that “for 2 1/2 quarters we were making holes, driving people off the ball. Then our defense stepped up.

“At halftime, Helsey said, ‘I'm not making any tackles.' But in the fourth quarter, Randal said, ‘Coach, I'm getting tackles.'”

By PETE SWANSON

"The Tigers, who this week welcomed injured lineman Michael Bannister’s return to practice, and think he’ll play Sept. 4 at Washington, will start the same lineups as vs. Wood Memorial. Sean Hatfield and Jamal Jackson, who each topped 100 yards in the opener, will rotate at running back with Zach Pedigo and Dontray Chavis. “Whomever is hot will get the ball,” said Zirkelbach, who will rotate Jeff Koberstein, Pedigo and Jake Thacker at fullback."
