AWARDS AND RECOGNITIONS

* The SMDC Foundation and Duluth Clinic Foundation announced James M. Koberstein, M.D., was named Educator of the Year and Irina Haller, Ph.D., was named Researcher of the Year. The awards recognize outstanding work that contributes to health-care excellence in our region and exemplifies quality medical research and education.

Koberstein, an obstetrician gynecologist, was honored for his work as director of SMDC’s Obstetrical/ Procedural Medicine Fellowship. The one-year fellowship, which was started July 1, 2008, provides additional education and training for family medicine physicians in performing Caesarean sections, emergency medicine, trauma and other procedures. The fellowship’s goal is to help provide rural communities with family medicine physicians who will be able to perform complete obstetric services in their local hospital.
