Robot design considerations

We decided to use a modified Roverbot to complete this event. We extended down the front bumper to detect the edge of the arena. We also put smaller back wheels on to reduce the amount of bounce that was occuring in the bot's movement and we modified the bot's Chassis to give the bot greater ground clearance.

Darin Racek, Special to the Gazette

OBERLIN -- The weather at Decatur County Speedway in Oberlin Friday night made for a pleasant night of watching racing for the race fans and for the drivers from four different states.

...

Corey Koberstein of Holyoke, Colo. and his car flew off the track to avoid the looped car of North Platte driver Tom Belsky. Koberstein's car hit the retaining wall that sets back from the track very hard, stopping almost instantly. Fortunately, Corey was able to walk away from the accident.

TRACKSTERS LOSE TRACTION AT WINDY AKRON MEET

DARCI TOMKY, THE HOLYOKE ENTERPRISE

At a time in the season when track and field athletes are accustomed to bettering their best times and distances, the wind halted hopes of that at the Akron Invitational Saturday, April 28.
Coach Corey Koberstein said Holyoke athletes struggled against the wind all day Saturday; however, some did post personal bests.
With only a few meets left in the season, athletes are attempting to better their times/distances in hopes of being in the top 18 in Colorado to qualify for the 2A state track meet May 17-19.
Koberstein said he has a fairly good idea which team members will qualify, but anything could change at the end of the season.
Fifteen teams competed at the Akron Invitational. Holyoke girls placed third with 99 points, while Yuma won the meet with 128. Holyoke boys finished in fifth place with 61 points; Sedgwick County led the pack with 122.
Those with top finishes in Akron included Taeryn Trumper, first in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes and the long jump; Aaron Sierra, first in the 110 meter hurdles and second in the 300 meter hurdles; Taylor Trumper, second in the 100 meter dash; and Emali Torres, second in the shot put.
