They called him the hometown hero.

When Jeremy Schram was serving with the United States Marine Corps in Iraq, he received so much support from friends and relatives in Holyoke, his co-Marines started noticing and gave him his moniker.

Now that he has returned to the United States and has been stateside for about three weeks, Schram took time on Wednesday, March 9 to introduce himself to some of his youngest supporters.

Second graders in Claudia Koberstein's class sent cards, letters and care packages to Schram while he was in Iraq, and he shared those well-wishes with the other Marines.

"Everyone there really enjoyed it," Schram said. "The support was awesome."

Schram also sent cards back to Koberstein's second grade class, and when he visited with them last Wednesday, they shared questions and cupcakes with him.  ...
